Lighter Hair the Natural Way!

My Mission: Attain longer, healthier hair by October.

To complete this mission I have:

  • Scheduled a hair cut (trim) by my lovely hairdresser Amy @ Mieka Hair Salon in Nobbys Beach every 8 weeks
  • Treated my hair- twice a week
  • Refused to dye it during this period
  • Limited use of my GHD flat iron to no more than 3 times a month
I have been doing a lot of research on how to make my hair the healthiest possible. Along side the change of lifestyle, I have been using organic certified shampoos, conditioners + treatments. Hey, if I don't want toxins in my tummy then why put them all over my scalp and face. Plus- they smell so yum!

Anyway, I like my hair when it is naturally highlighted by the sun and with learning so much about it all I made this little home brew recipe that lightens your hair- bleach free! It takes 4-6 treatments to see some good results!

Things you'll need:
  • 2 Tbs of Coconut Oil (you can use olive oil if you don't have Coconut Oil)
  • 3 Tbs of Raw Organic Honey
  • Half a Lemon
  • Quarter of a Banana- only use this if you have a food processor. If you dont mix it up properly things get way too messy
  • A glass jar
  • Wide tooth hair comb
The Process:
  1. Mix up all the ingredients into your clean glass jar
  2. You don't need to be precise about the measurements, just as long as the honey is the most dominant ingredient as that is the ingredient that will give you lighter hair
  3. Once you have given all the ingredients a really good stir, put the jar aside for 15 minutes
  4. Then get ready to get messy! Apply to hair starting at the back of the neck and working your way to the front of your hair and ends.
  5. Once all your hair is wet from mixture, clip your hair back into a bun
  6. Wrap your hair under a plastic bag. This stores the heat
  7. Leave in for 40 minutes
  8. Unwrap your hair and wash out treatment
  9. Shampoo and Condition as per usual, I am using organic, Australian made products

I will keep you updated on how my hair turns out in a few weeks. Either way the treatment gave me killer shine! Love!

An Important Date Approaches

Clayton and I have set the date! We are planning, discussing and dreaming all the way through and recently bought two tickets to Hawaii for our honeymoon! ALOHA!

I have picked THE dress! I am going down to Sydney for my first fitting in two weeks! I'm utterly mesmerized by it and sometimes the memory of myself in the mirror when I first tried it on keeps me awake at early hours of the morning.  So far we have booked and confirmed the following:

  • ceremony and reception venue
  • a celebrant
  • a stylist who is also the florist
  • videographer
  • honeymoon location
  • brides dressmaker
I guess you could say we are slowly getting there! Scary to think that it is already February! Hello Count Down!

As the entrepreneur I am, I have started my 2nd business in the Fitness Industry. Urban Babes is a fitness service for girls on the Gold Coast. So far the rewards of my job are very fulfilling and I am enjoying it immensely whilst attempting on to market the hell out of it and really get the client flow consistent and endless!
One of my new years resolutions is to read more and I am proud to say I have kept to it. I set aside 45 minutes of each day in which I read. Mostly books on nutrition and health. I am enjoying so much that I am now a member of Flannery's Health Food store and buy/eat mostly (if not all) organic foods. I also read Miranda Kerrs, Treasure Yourself again. It really is an insightful book, especially for young women of today who are their own worst critics. It is not what you would expect from the stereotyped "air hear" Victoria Secret Model, the chick is deep. Anyway, I am going through quite the lifestyle change with eating no processed, high carb foods, no dairy and no gluten! It is super refreshing and I feel limitless-ly energized. I guess you could say my life is going green!

Now that I am in routine with work etc, hopefully I will be able to post more.

Have a beautiful day and thanks for checking in.

The Proposal

Many of you are wondering how Clayton asked me to marry him and I promised I would tell you so here we go! (And sorry for the delay)

Firstly, I thought I'd tell the story of how Clay and I met.

My sister Jesse and her husband Matt were always telling me I should try this "Crossfit" stuff. I was set in my own ways with "Goodlife Gym" and kept putting it off. Until one weekend, I was staying with them on the Gold Coast and decided to go to a Saturday 7am session. So, I rolled out of bed, no make up, didn't brush my hair, didn't moisturise my legs, put on some gym gear and off I went to Crossfit. I must say I was pretty gobsmacked when I saw Clay across the room in my glamorous 7am ways and it was just crazy how I felt drawn to him. I kept looking at him in the corner of my eye and then looking away when he looked at me. I remember going home and saying to my guardian parent Deb, "I'm in Love" and I remember the look on her face was pure confusion and shock, but I honestly felt I was!  I remember texting my best friend Philippa after our first date and she replied "Who's hacked your phone?" She's now my Maid of Honor!

The next day Jesse told me that Clayton had been texting Matt (my brother in law) telling them they should have a BBQ and invite me to it. I remember jumping up and down in my room and giggling hysterically when my sister told me.
And the rest is history. That week we had our first date and you know what they say "when you know, you know" ... Well, we knew. We shared the same dreams.

The Proposal
Lake Tahoe - California
We were on our trip to America, where Clay competed in the World Crossfit Games and we planned to stay a week longer to visit my two brothers who live there. Little did I know, Clay had some plans of his own! We were staying with my brother Lee and his wife Sharisse and we'd decided to find some Crossfit Gyms while we were staying in the beautiful Lake Tahoe.
Its at a really high altitude which has so many fitness benefits too! Anyway, back to the point! So, off we went to Crossfit, when we finished training Clay suggested we get some Starbucks and sit at a lookout. We got our coffees and were sitting on a big rock looking over one of the most beautiful places on earth. I was blabbering away about the place and my memories there. I sat there clueless in my gym clothes and weightlifting socks, no make up, hair pulled back- just like the first time I saw him. I'd finished my coffee and then Clay put his down...

He turn to me and said "Hey Rev, you know you're my best friend?" I replied casually "Yeah, I know"
Clay- You know how much I love you and how we're soulmates?
Me- Yeah, I know
Clay- You know I want to spend the rest of my life with you?
Me (dreamily)- Yeah I know
Clay- Well, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me? *Pulls out RING!!!*
Me- *waterworks waterworks waterworks* *oh my god oh my god oh my god*
Clay- Well, will you?
Me- YES!

We hugged and kissed on the rock and typically some boys in their car screamed out "Yewww!!!" It was the most amazing moment in my life. Here is a photo of what we REALLY looked like when it happened. We had our sister in law take shots after at the spot. But I'm never one too miss a photo op!
Hehehe!
When I met Clay and we talked about our own future plans I really thought it was too good to be true, but time has shown that its all real and this is really happening.

As I've written on my blog before my life really does feel like a fairy tale. When I was kid I would never have dreamed of the life I lead today. It goes to show, never give up because life goes on.
